TCA0372 shortage?

ON still lists the TCA0372 power op amp as active, but total distributor stock is less than 1k pieces and the quoted lead time is 6-1/2 months!



Here I'm trying to hang a couple of ADA4817s off a 20-V rail, and my go-to floating ground generator is getting scarce. razzafrazza%$&@!!

I'd hate for this to go EOL. I just designed it into our new delay generator. It makes programmable VH and VL for my GaN totem pole.

Can you use alternative? For instance, lm358 is cheaper and available.

Incidentally, it seems to be c-load stable with a 56u polymer. I'm adding a 1 ohm series resistor, out of excess caution.

But doesn't source and sink an amp. The TCA0372 is a unique part--it's like a four-quadrant LM317 with much lower dropout voltage.

That's what I usually do. You might want to scope the supply pins to see if it's got a low amplitude, high current oscillation without the resistor.

A 8 pins, 10 cent lm358 plus buffer (FET or darlington) is still cheaper and smaller than the $1, 16 pins TCA0372.

Just a suggestion.

OK. I have five duals on two shared pours, +24 and -8.

Making it four-quadrant takes significantly more parts than that, though, plus there's the class-AB bias current issue to worry about.

I could use an LM675 or OPA551 to make the floating ground and an LM337 upside down to make the floating 'negative' supply, but that's more cost and board space than a 48-cent TCA0372 dual.

Sure hope ON Semi doesn't stop making them anytime soon.

We're paying 44 cents for the dual. There's nothing like it. An opamp with discrete buffers would be a lot of parts without the thermal limit. Probably wouldn't swing as far either.

The nearest immediate sub is the LA6500, bigger package, more dissipation, worse slew rate and GBW etc.

20 watts dissipation with "infinity heat sink", which is my favorite kind.

Also, unrelated, I found these:

RRIO, 120 MHz, 180V/usec, 0.3p bias current, 6.5 nV/sqrtHz. About 40 cents in quantity for the single, could prolly find a use for those

also source 100mA min and 300mA typ, y'know a quad is probably a bit over a buck and in parallel would be nothin' to sniff at.

So long as 5.5 volts top end is cool.

I was going to suggest the lm675, but on octoparts the cheapest (lm675) are from Rochester electronics... never a good sign.

Looks good but they seem a bit un-confident about the offset voltage spec...???? it's usually somewhere in there

Awesome, thanks! It has the same pinout, and for lower supply voltages it might well be interchangeable. I'll get some and see.
