Great, thanks for the reply! I am hoping to be able to change the set point temperature of the cold finger and rely on the firmware to maintain that s etpoint. Do you recall if you are able to control the setpoint temperature with the program that you wrote? This is all quite new to me. Thanks again for the help.

dhand (Hybrid 98 Cryogenic cooler, same as yours I believe). I have been se arching all over the internet trying to locate the software to control the unit through the RS232 port and I have been unable to find it anywhere. Do you have this software or know where I might be able to find it online? Sup erconductor Technologies is unwilling to provide it since I did not buy the unit from them. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Hi, this type of device is quite new to me and I have no experience with RS
-232 control software. My understanding is that this device has proprietary firmware which maintains a setpoint temperature which happens to be ~77K. I wish only to change that setpoint temperature but still rely on the firmw are to maintain the setpoint. Thanks for any help!

Not sure I did that via RS232. But why bother?
There is even somebody who simply used the cooler on a 60 Hz variac from the mains. As alternative to a power audio amp and PC signal generator I used...
To measure I use this:

So if you have the temperature and can set the drive voltage (I added a trimmer to that original thing between 2 wires to set output level). If you want to know which wires I can take a picture of it.
You could also control it by adding a tiny amount of voltage in series with your thermocouple. It would keep the setpoint, but the real temperature would be lower or higher
As they say: The possibilities are endless.
