Try the application notes on the webpages of the manufacturers, such as Analog devices, linear technology, National semiconductors, Texas instruments and such.

is "king". They have most of their ICs modeled for their LTSpice program, and you can also have their software design for you a (sub-optimal) circuit using their devices and actual components from their library. All free! Then you can add or change components for optimization, run a transient simulation, and it will even print out an efficiency report showing power loss in each component.
