Keep in mind simple theories are often poor performers. For example, the cartoon, "soup of DNA and bacteria, lightning strike, and DNA inside bacteria," could mean only a few viable surviving e-coli cells with new DNA, given that they multiply so very well, I'm thinking.
I have no data to prove that. But supposedly they works, cause there are many similar products from different manufacturers in the market Eppendorf, BTX, Biorad, Thermo and many more but they are too expensive.
