speed of light variance in a vacuum measured

This story talks about measuring light speed variance of single photons in a vacuum based on the photons spatial distribution, ie a conical wavefront apparently travels at one part in 100,000 slower than a plane wave front!

I think this concept also supports the idea of thrust being generated from that NASA experiment of high power microwaves inside a closed container possibly.

I looked at the article and thought... hmm well what else do you expect from the one-dimensional velocity of a cone of light? Duuuhhh....

one dimensional velocity, idiot.

Technically speaking, a velocity is multi-dimensional vector with a direction. In one dimension the scalar variable "speed" is all that you need.

I'm afraid that the idiocy is all yours, as usual. You may not be the original AlwaysWrong, but you are currently filling the much-needed gap.

The pdf for that paper on the last page says this about the speed of light variance:

"The effect can be derived from a simple geometric argument ... Beyond light, the effect observed will have applications to any wave theory, including sound waves and, potentially, gravitational waves."

Quite a misleading paper unfortunately, to say that the speed of light changes when at the same time they are increasing the path length is simply incorrect, that is the hard part of the paper to understand, when there are 8 authors and 20 references, and two universities! WTF! :D

There are 2D and 3D velocities? How does that work?

The hard part is the speed of paper travel between the 8 authors, especially without an octoplexor.

A velocity is a vector. It has direction in as many dimensions as you are interested in and a scalar magnitude/speed along the direction of travel.

DecadentLinuxUserNumeroUno didn't get to take that class, any more than you did.
