Some Might Find This Useful

I think it's pretty neat, and for those who don't automatically do the math in their head right away, useful.

Google let me down in finding this. I have had a couple different ones over the years. Of course this is not extremely accurate but it is quick.

I actually dug it up from an old filing cabinet I have had forever.

Actually, if anyone needs, I could scan it at a higher resolution. That copy is at the default on the HP CM1312nfi. I'm pretty sure it can do better.

I remember there being other charts that helped with quick design. One had the mu of a tube plotted against plate load resistance and gave open loop voltage gain, something lke that.

For some reason these things are no longer aropund. Of course we can all do 1 over 2 pi FC, but when it is right there it is even better.

Anyway, if anyone asks for a higher resolution copy I will scna it and upload it. At the moment though, it aeems like it should work fine just the way it is.

I used momograms in college maybe 45 years ago. I still have several books on the topic (that I can't find) and a box of various K&E momogram graph paper. I do most of my math on a calculator, because doing it in my head always results in a least an order of magnitude error.

Make your own: or turn it into art:

Found with Google: etc...

It actually is similar to the neural net pattern for that in my head. You build that up over the years,

Grin, I use the wall behind my computer as "document" storage.

That chart, copied form AoE is front and center... it's always nice to have a math check.

I know the following may sound a bit crazy, but I think its worth discussing anyway.

Here's an open question: Nomograms are used for calculations of an algebraic nature, but could they be used for qualitative questions as well? In that mode, a scale would be a qualitative assessment of something, as well as the answer.

Perhaps a few examples would help. On one scale is your feelings of depression- happiness. Then on another scale is a list of things you like to do for fun. Perhaps an intermediate scale is your planning process. If you feel crappy, and you plan accordingly, then the readout line will intersect on a scale item, "go to a movie," or "quit alcohol."

These are qualitative areas - like diet, exercise, health, vitamins, exercise, relationships etc. ISTM there is a role for nomograms here, and I wonder if complex nomograms could be constructed to show the interconnection between, say, mental state - friendships - exercise - fun activities - diet -

You get the idea. Any opinions? The idea is to reduce the complexity of life's choices. j
