Simpson 303 VTVM connectors

Apr 06, 2012 17 Replies

Just so a good flame war doesn't go to waste, I dug out one of my old Simpson 303 VTVMs. They both work fine--no stickiness in the meter movements that I can detect, which is how old meters usually die.

However, I don't have any probes for them, and the little connectors don't seem to be available anymore. Here's a picture of the meter input, next to an old-fashioned unbalanced mic connector, which is the closest thing I've found so far, but is almost twice too big.

Any notion where I could find a half dozen or so of these connectors?

Thanks

Er. Forget what I said. I ignored the part about size,

Suggest that a machinist could knock out a few for you if you gave her an example to measure.

Thanks, I know where to get the mic connector--it's the Simpson connector that I need!

Actually, I backed up from the page you sent and drilled down another way, and I think I found them, thanks!

So the microphone jack in the Simpson is bad and you want to replace it? The source Winston pointed out also as the mounts, part numer 2501MP:

No, they came without leads, so I need to make a couple of sets. I think it's this one:

No, that one is about 1/2 the size of the one you want. Here is the proper connector

Might want to call a couple of local audio shops. The guys that sell and service E-guitars and tube amps. Older shops could still carry these.

Have a look at the picture. Those are the ones I have already, and they're twice too big!

Never mind...

If you have the time and are so disposed, you may want to try this way: http://www.simpson260.com/303/simpson_303.htm

Sacrilege!

(Of course I've done much worse things myself, but never on a web page.) ;)

You can't have a sense of humor, if you have no sense.

Phil,

Do you still have the meter in front of you ?

Please measure the diameter of the connector and post it.

This will put an end to those you can not see the difference in the picture.

No worries, I already ordered some of the half size versions from the Switchcraft page. We'll see in a day or two.

Thanks again!
