RS485 grounding

There seems to be much debate on this with the searching I've done.Let's say, simply you have a pretty long connection in a typicaloffice environment between a transmitter and receiver, communicatingone way via RS485 and a twisted pair.I have always used a shield but only ground one end of it, usuallywherever the "best" ground is....rcvr or xmtr.However, I see also a great deal of discussion regarding grounding atboth ends through 100 ohm resistors?------------------------------------------------------------- A------------------------------------------------------------- B100 ohm............shield................100 ohmWhat is that all about or should I care?

Besides, it'll cause no end of fun if there's a ground fault between the two pieces of equipment that melts your ground shield.
