RFIDs close to HV power lines

Sep 13, 2008 3 Replies

Does any of you know if passive RFID will work close (3-4 meters) to high voltage power lines (275kVolt). I think yes since they work in FR frequencies and power lines have

60-50 Hz despite the strong electromagnetic fields. Do you agree???

Probably.

If you intend such RFIDs to be used by humans, isn't 3 metres a bit too close to a 275 kV power line for safety? Or do you mean 3 metres from the projection of an overhead power line on the ground, when the line is at least 7.2 m above the ground?

the

No within three meters from the power line. Lets assume that safety is not an issue.

Not to make an issue, but as i recall minimum clearance at that voltage is on the order of 4.5 meters.
