RFID: Active Transponders + Reader (Long Range - 20-40m)

Dec 15, 2004 5 Replies

Following are my requirements for an RFID application that I'm prototyping:

1) R/W Transponders (400-900 MHz, or 2.4 GHz) - for long range operations (20-40m). Should allow 1K-2K worth of storage capacity. The higher the read range, the better.

2) Readers that can work with transponders (1).

Any vendors, sample kits that meet the above requirements? One factor that is important is the cost. Would appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.

Which of their technologies has your chip? I.e., 123kHz short-range inductive? Long-range 433MHz UHF?

Thanks, - Win

It was a transponder for pallets.

123KHz received by chip, then into a uP, then response via a 433MHz module.

Cost? Are you kidding? Cheap RFIDs are made to go 1/10th that distance.
