Sort of like job applications, they'll get rejected more often than not when they try to do that even if they do absolutely everything right, tis the reality of life.

But it's probably not the left's fault they do that. I think it's mostly the dude's own inability to 'read the room' correctly, and their inability to take the loss when making a move fails (which is a lot of the time.)

They're not terrified of making women uncomfortable for us 'commies' sake!! They're afraid of taking the shot to their ego; it's much easier to sit there hoping and wishing than finding out whether she really likes you that way or not.

I've never known a woman to stay mad at a man for making a (tactful) romantic overture who also knew how to take the loss gracefully. I have known many women who stay mad for men who form "friendships" with them under false pretenses.

I think I'm seeing a return to biology, recognition that boys and girls are different. The trans thing is fading.

Nowadays people don't have to conform to traditional gender roles, but many choose to because that's what they are.

There is a trend towards Victorian ideas of biology, as taught in infant schools; many people nowadays rarely progress beyond that stage. There is no single characteristic which determines a person's sex, it is made up of chromosomes, organs, hormones, brain development and dozens of other components that are still being discovered. Any attempt to rigidly classify people by their ability to reproduce, what the midwife saw (or thought she saw) at their birth, or any other single charactreristic is a complete nonsense.

With all these variables it is hardly surprising that some of the biological markers appear to contradict the social ones which make up gender.

Trans people were there all along but they were afraid to speak out; then things became more civilised and they showed themselves. People were surprised: where had they all come from so suddenly? There must be some sort of trendy mass delusion going on. Now ignorant thugs are in control and trans people are hiding away again.

We were always here and we will always be here - just less or more visible depending on the level of oppression.

Most people have the right to choose but there is one group of people who have been singled out and denied that right - and they are the ones who would most benefit from it.

Anything but redesign public restrooms. The incorporation of filthy pee-splattered urinals and stalls that don't go floor-to-ceiling and leave your ankles exposed is so important to our society, what would we do without them.

Basically all vaguely pragmatic concerns with transgender people could be solved by a (imo long-overdue) facilities redesign. The rest is just bigotry, which engineering can't address.

Surprising number of conservative men seem to either want to become "good with women", or invest significant time thinking and speculating about what women who aren't their wives are up to.

It seems like a strange set of activities for men whose ideology instructs them to find one woman, marry her, have children and stay with her for life. They don't need to be "good with women" or think about what women in general are up to. Not relevant to the task at hand.

I wasn't questioning the apparent drop in numbers, I was pointing out that it is most likely to be one of the intended consequences of the recent increase in persecution.

It sounds as though you are saying that only trans people who don't look trans are allowed to be treated properly.

Being gay or trans used to be a felony. Persecution is way down.

A mixed presentation confuses people. It sounds like you get angry with them for being confused.

My interest here is in the interaction of social forces with electronic design. I've had a few gay engineers and one trans, and I think they were too social to be good inventors.

In an interesting progression, people with kids were once unwelcome in gay restaurants. Eueeee, breeders! Now everyone is much more tolerant. Women are pushing baby buggies down Castro street and people smile. Gosh.
