Regulator issues

Hi,

I am currently using DS3984 to be use on a CCFL inverter. The FETs used in this design is IRLU120N. I am currently using a LM78L05ACM to step-down a 12V to 5V. The problem I am experiencing when I turn on the inverter for the first time, the output of this regulator is 0.8V and it overheats. I remove the regulator and place a 5V line in place and the inverter works fine apart for the FETs overheating. Afterwards I replace the regulator back on to the board and powered it up and the output is 5V and the inverter works fine. I have tried it for a couple of inverters and still the same issue.

Does anyone has ideas why this is happening?

Cheers Geoff
