I'm not sure "visible to dark-adapted eyeballs" is the best critieria.Assuming you don't turn the light on in the bathroom ( triggering somedaylight brain chemistry) you don't want the LED wavelength to causeserotonin production. A *quick* search came up with blue light causing theproduction of serotonin. * emphasis on quick.I'm might place them at them on the post near the floor so when you walk in, you get inbed between them, but they aren't noticable when in bed.As a side note I notice my son has some nerf glow in the dark darts stuckto the ceiling light in his room. They charge up when the light is on and glowwhen he goes to bed. Maybe a couple of these spaced properly could give you the orientation needed. MikePS. At wattages in the 10's of watts to about 100 watts, efficiency improves as design voltages decreases, down to somewhere around 12 volts or so ballpark. Lower than that, the efficiency starts decreasing as design voltage decreases due to heat conduction through the ends of the filament.

thicker filaments last longer. longer lasting filaments can be run hotter and still last long enough. hotter filaments are more efficient. lower voltage means thicker filament.

optimum voltage is low, 24V ballpark somewhere, that's what projectors often use.
