Sheeeesh, Jim! I hold back from upgrades and only this past year went to XP, but using Win98SE is like Thomas More uttering, "...for Wales" ;-)

I always thought Win98SE was a piece-a-crap.

I had one Lexmark inkjet that would NOT work with Windows 2000 when I upgraded. That printer was canabalized and then landed in the trash heap. Replaced it with an Epson-880 that gave quite a number of years of service until it too gave up the ghost. Harvested that one and now have an HP3100. We'll see how long that lasts.

Try posting in comp.periphs.printers - one of the lurkers there may be able to point you in the right direction.

The problem with wine (my version) is that I cannot run wine apps remotely via ssh -Y, it seems wine is not exactly an X application, although it runs in X? For example ssh -Y snipped-for-privacy@somewhere.com cd to wherever it is wine scad3.exe fails with an error message. Works fine on the local machine though.

Good thing designing electronics stuff pays well.

Actually MSWin98 is pretty good, i still have old useful machines still running it. They won't run XP. MSWin95 was a really bad piece of crap though; it would fail and reboot within a few minutes of coming up regularly.

That 900 MHz machine will run XP but you would not like it, it would be a real slug on that machine.

XP and XP support keeps getting extended, major corporate's are rejecting Vista in droves over comparability and legacy support issues. I think the Vista debacle will dwarf the ME flop by quite a bit. Worse than BOB even.
