I was straight up with him. Told him I dropped my Q off in the shop for maintenance and they gave me one of those new G35's to drive (a red one yet :-)... Pecos was clear and I just wanted to see what it would do... so I put my foot to the floor, and I was halfway to Desert Foothills from 24th St. before I spotted the cop ;-)

I was properly belted and signaled my exit off the roadway... hands on the wheel, window rolled down, handed him my paperwork and insurance card... nothing to complain about but the speed... straight down the limited access road... straight arrow at 100MPH.... I'm not exactly inexperienced... drive the autobahn regularly at 135MPH.

In fact we discussed why this hard-on about speed in America ;-)

I qualified for "driver school", so no fine, just $100 for the school. Now, in Arizona, you can do "driver school" on the web :-)

For what it's worth, one of my scuba buddies was on the Tampa police force. He said when he'd ask people why he pulled them over, the ones who DIDN'T KNOW usually got the ticket because he claimed they needed a wake-up call.

Of course, Dave only wrote about 5 tickets a year....

Think about that next time you're pulled over. The officer just might be impressed enough to let you off with a warning. At least it shows you're aware of your reality, and therefore less likely to harm anyone.

Jim, talked my way out of a 113 mph speeding ticket on I10 between ray and Warner one night... Told the cop straight up I was speeding. He was surprised I hadn't been drinking or doing drugs. He did ask if I was racing the BMW behind me, which was full of my buddies and yes I was... Told him everything. including how 3 of the 4 in the BMW were drunk as lords. Let me go with a yelling (real deal yelling) and no ticket.... that was back in the mid 80's.....

I always drive at a speed that I feel is safe. This is usually slightly in excess of the speed limit, sometimes slower, and sometimes _way_ higher. If you find me _really_ exceeding the speed limit it'll be when there's no one in front of me, I'm alert, I can see for miles, and there's no nearby schools.

I haven't gotten a ticket in years; when I have been pulled over I've been able to point out the visibility and emptiness, and have gotten off with warnings.

Thinking about it, the only ticket I've ever gotten in the boonies was when I got tracked by an airplane on I10 between Indio and Blythe... ~1984

Around here (Houston) the favorite time for making quotas seems to be the beginning of the month. Speed traps seem real popular at the first of the month. Then after about the 20th, you almost never see them pulling anyone over.
