I've often thought that it would be satisfying to make bricks or something like that. No bugs, no complexities. If you have 40 tons of bricks in the back lot, you don't have to worry much about them.

There are a lot of Larkin's around. There's a Larkin Street near here, and Larkin Valley to the south. He was Scottish, I think, and I'm Irish.

The Scots and Irish seem to trend towards engineering and similar hands-on stuff.

Ever been in Ireland? The west sure is worth a trip. We rented a house in Killaloe right at the Shannon before moving to the US, to see if it would be a good place to retire. It would be, but me liver would suffer too much.

We spent a couple weeks in the southwest, Dingle peninsula, cliffs of mohair, all that. It's beautiful but looks like a tough place to live off the land, or to bring in a boat.

The food did not impress me much, and most of the pubs were so full of smoke that we'd walk out.

The roads are terrifying; narrow, crowned, ditches and fens and rocks on the sides, trucks, and everything reversed.
