OT: spoofed phone service order

*Note: all names and numbers have been altered except for phone service "provider". On phone bill for #1234: 1) Pay-Per-Use Services line item: Apr 27 @ 7:57P _service_ Three Way Calling Activation 2) Pay-Per-Use Summary line item: #1234 1 Activation at $0.75 3) Special Service Charges line item: May 04 @ 4:20P to _place_ VERIFY _number_ #4339 _type_ M _minutes_ (empty) $1.40

  • Owner of #1234 NEVER asked for this, meaning some else posed as owner.

  • Call to Qwest was virtually useless; they do NO checking as who is calling for a change in phone services, they also seem to do NO logging as to who called. In fact they admit they have NO procedures at all!

Questions: How the h!ell does one find out who actually made the order? How does one find out what number was really used (was able to verify that #4339 was not involved).

Just nail them for the charges. Negligent business practices need to be punished. If they don't budge warn them that you are about to file complaints with this, that and the other agency. So far I only had to do that with insurance companies but boy, the guys on the other side almost clicked their heels and stood at attention. "Yes Sir, of course Sir, right away Sir ..."

The scary part is that credit applications are often handled in a similarly haphazard way.

I expect that you cannot pry anything loose without pushing a criminal complaint.
