OT: Source of Carbon Black Pigment

I'd like to buy a bag about the size of a football of carbon black pigment online from Canada or the US.

After some GoogleFu..I lost the fight.. :(

This is to tint paints and adhesives.

I remember this site when I did some searching.. No online order form. No min quantities mentioned. No package quantities mentioned. No prices.. Stock? And I have to phone for my order.. :(

I'll email questions... Hopefully the min buy isn't 300 pounds of carbon black.. D from BC

Quit whining! You could always use the extra to make pencils. ;-)

Maybe I could put carbon resistors in the coffee grinder :)

Find a Chimney Sweeper and ask for their leftovers.

A random thought is that you might be able to make do with toner intended for photocopiers or laser printers.

A quick search with froogle found 10Kg of toner for $250

A quick google search suggests the wholesale price of carbon black is $5/10Kg to $100/10Kg depending on the grade, pigment quality being expensive.

You could try looking for chemical suppliers in your area.

I think toner contains plastic powder too.. If I add laser toner to paint or glue, I think it'll affect the cure hardness. I'm no chemist but I think if there's junk in the way ..a weaker matrix is formed in the epoxy and the hardness decreases. Carbon alone causes interference but carbon + plastic...even worse.. I've seem smaller quantities in hardware stores, for bulk try a place that provides supplies to concretors.

I'm not sure that the black stuff is carbon, they call it "oxide" same as all the other mineral pigments they use.

for the query: carbon+black+pigment

I got this advert:

only sell container loads: maybe you could ask them for a sample?

carbon+black+pigment+retail

got nothing interesting.

and here I was expecting some other wierd scheme for DIY PCB.

hmm, use enough and you could make thick-film resistors :)

yes, low meltinf point plastic or high temp wax and iron oxide (or other black magnetic oxide)

any additive will have an effect.

how about carbon fibres?

For epoxy there's epoxy black pigment, about $50/kg. Usage about 5% by weight. Stocked by most glass fibre suppliers, who'll also do normal polyester black pigments at about $15/kg and a whole range of fascinating exotic additives such as microspheres, graphites, carbon fibres etc, in user friendly quantities. Water based paints etc take very kindly to artists Acrylic pigments. Been using this company for a couple of years,

it's UK but representitive of sourcing epoxy materials.

Yes. I found one fartart store online with lamp black.. I might order online. It's 1 hour from me.

Dry pigment is good that it can be mixed in whatever I'm using.

I don't think I can get the particle size small enough with a home DIY method.. + The stuff is messy to work with.. I'd buy it instead. D from BC
