OT: John Kerry wants free speech "hammered out of existence"

Speaking at a WEF meeting (Globalism Central) among like-minded cronies, Kerry says he wants independent media and dissent "hammered out of existence" and that means the First Amendment has to go. This is blatant, out-and-out totalitarianism reminiscent of the darkest Soviet times.

It's not independent media and dissent that he's objecting to but the kind of lying propaganda that you make a habit of posting here.

Free speech doesn't extend to shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre, and the kind of climate change denial propaganda that you tout is no less dangerous, though it will take longer to create a lethal disaster.

American right-wing politics has weaponised lying propaganda.

Trump's non-stop lying is more a personality defect, but he does fit well with the deceitful right-wing tradition.

"Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel" to quote Dr. Johnson.

There is another right-wing tradition of disinterested probity, but it doesn't seem to win elections today.

Basically by definition, the Left wants to control everything; it's a power lust thing.

Since they assume that they understand social and economic systems, no matter how complex, and control everything, it makes sense that they would define dissenting theories as "disinformation" and make such illegal.

That dynamic is one reason that centrally-controlled economies do so badly, and tend to kill millions.

Quite. I just do *not* understand how this kind of warped thinking can take root so deeply in Western countries where one would assume we'd have learned from the horrors of Soviet Russia and Communist China and the nightmares of the 1934 famine-by-design and the family-shattering public denunciations of the Cultural Revolution. And you have people like Kerry coming right out in public and admitting that they hold such views - on the record in front of TV cameras! Unabashed Marxists and Maoists like Kerry, Harris and Hitlary espousing this vile doctrine and essentially admitting they want *total* control over the dissemination of information and dissenting views "hammered out of existence." That's the kind of bonkers PoV that only some contemptible individual who detests freedom, like Bill Sloman, would endorse.

For John Larkin's definition of the left, which assumes that all left-wingers want an authoritarian socialist - Soviet Communist style - regime.

Most socialists know that this is bad idea - and Karl Marx got thrown out of the International Socialist organisation in 1871 for endorsing it.

The "control everything" part is the problem. US big business has the same kind of ambition, and the US was the first country to introduce anti-trust legislation in an attempt to control. It clearly didn't go far enough.

As Trump did when he tried to control the US response to the Covid-19 epidemic which probably a million more Americans than it would have done under a better-informed regime.

Actually they, don't. John Larkin and Cursitor Doom imagine that anybody less rabidly right-wing than they are is a card-carrying communist, which is a trifle irrational. >

Kerry, Harris and Hillary Clinton aren't unabashed Marxists or Maoists. They'd sue you for slander if you said it in public, and they'd win huge damages - if you could pay them. In practice neither of you has enough money to make you worth suing.

They are less right-wing than you are, but then most people are.

Cursitor Doom and John Larkin have the bonkers point of view here. Writing off everybody less right wing than you are as unabashed Marxists and Maoist is a lunatic over-simplification.

You don't have to detest freedom to think that the right to post lies like that is stretching freedom of speech into very dangerous territory.

The first amendment lets you publish what you like, but it doesn't stop you getting sued for publishing malicious lies, or getting prosecuted for publishing dangerous and destructive propaganda.

The climate change denial propaganda to which John Larkin and Cursitor Doom is addicted is doing it's best to kill people in progressively more dramatic "natural disasters" as the CO2 level in the atmosphere keeps on creeping up.

The American economic embargo has wrecked the productivity of even the Cuban sugar industry.

"There's not enough trucks and the fuel shortages mean sometimes several days pass before we can work,"

They can still grow it, but half the sugar processing plants aren't working any more, and without enough trucks even the ones that are still working can't get all the cane the could process.

John Larkin is basically crowing about the effectiveness of the long-running US economic embargo on Cuba. Trump actually ramped it up when he was in power.
