It was not a panic. My guess is he was in possession of something in that vehicle that was a felony offense. The police in those kinds of neighborhoods generally don't pursue to make a misdemeanor arrest. They simply go to the suspect residence and wait for them to show. In the meantime the suspect can ditch the incriminating evidence. Eluding the police is a low grade felony too, but not as serious as others. He wasn't counting on being placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant.

I'd advise never getting a suntan or this caliber of officer might mistake you for being black, too

Yeah, that'd be bad. You get into all sorts of trouble killing white people. Lots of paperwork I bet.

** Absolutely irrelevant.
Most post was quite accurate.

I'm sure that she knew the difference. The problem was that the two weapons didn't feel different enough in her hand to signal to her that she was pulling the trigger on an gun, rather than a taser. If she'd been under less stress at the time, she probably would have been able to notice the differences, but arresting potential criminals is always stressful.

How would Fred know that.
Fred's guess is all he needs to know to know exactly what might have been going on.
Probably not, which might have panicked him.

It happens similar to the way the crew of the USS Vincennes mistakes an Iranian airliner for a fighter jet; when you do the same type of exercise over and over and then encounter a situation with some similarities and some differences under stress, mentally the similarities to what has been practiced tend to become re-enforced, while the differences tend to become rejected. And the tendency then is to go by rote following what you've practiced for the exercises.

And what police in the US tend to practice is pulling the gun from the retention holder on the dominant-hand side of the body and firing it, not reaching across and pulling the taser from the off-hand side of the body and firing it.
So rote that by the time the officer consciously notices any difference in weight or color it's too late, they're already firing it.

Do you have a reference for this that doesn't cite something from a fake news outfit like CNN?

There's often friction between the police officers of different states. This short clip illustrates the problem very succinctly.

I'm surprised you said that. It's a popular theory on Zero Hedge. I didn't expect it to crop up here.

Canada's national police force - the RCMP (Mounties) - aren't in every province, nor are they in every town or city. We have separate police departments in the major cities as well as the provinces of Ontario and Quebec have their own provincial forces.

It is mostly our tighter gun restrictions that lead to reduced gun violence here in Canada and cops don't feel that every confrontation they have is going to end up as a gun battle. Case in point, we had two stabbing incidents recently that killed one or two people each before the perpetrator was subdued by police or bystanders. If they had guns the toll would have been much higher.
The OP is an idiot. If he was Black and had to deal with getting pulled over periodically on nonsense (your view is obstructed by a pine tree scent dangle - oops I shot you dead with a gun instead of my Taser) vs how often folks I know (who happen to be White) get pulled over (never) then perhaps he would understand better. But he is an buffoon (or a Russian plant) who has no apparent empathy. Ever hear of "The Talk" that Black parents give their children who have just learned to drive? Did your White parents ever tell you that?

More importantly, ever talk with a black *friend* about these things? (assuming one HAS black friends!)
It's always amusing to hear the bias in folks who've no clue as to what the other side sees.
Talk with an (older) woman about the way women are treated differently by doctors, employers, etc. All the hype you hear isn't JUST hype!
Or, ask a person *deserving* of a "handicapped plate" what their life is like. Then, notice the number of folks who've abused the system (to get a "better parking space").
But, considerably easier to stick one's head in the sand (or up one's ass) and pretend one's own view is The One Great Truth.

Only superficially. I don't think many people can even begin to imagine what it is like to have a missing limb (ANY limb).
Folks who rely on wheelchairs end up wearing out their shoulder joints, prematurely (try moving yourself around with just your arms for a day or two).
I'd refurbish electric wheelchairs for people (give-aways). Only to discover that the cost of replacement batteries made them essentially boat anchors -- esp if you have to rely on someone to replace the batteries *for* you.
And, even driving an electric wheelchair is tiring. I have a pair of "loaded" (tilt, legs, recline, lift, headlights, bluetooth, USB, ROHO, etc.) Permobil Corpus M300's:

I take them out for a drive periodically (to exercise the batteries); most recently, delivering oranges around the neighborhood (tedious to have to hand-carry 100+ pounds of fruit!).
It is an *amazingly* uncomfortable ride! Despite "shock absorbers", a ROHO seat cushion, gel arm rests, etc. you feel like your body has been abused while "comfortably" seated.
I have no idea what it would be like to spend the day -- every day -- in such a contraption!
[OToH, give me a long hallway -- like in a school -- and it's super fun to race down it!]

The disabled who have "invisible disabilities" have a particularly rough time of it like a friend of mine who has Behcet's syndrome. He used to regularly get bleeding mouth ulcers and cracked lips so bad he had difficulty eating, and severe conjunctivitis regularly.
Fortunately a drug called "Humira" came out which was like a miracle for him and controls his symptoms about 80% of the time. But still has to pop pain pills sometimes to keep the pain under control which also makes him tired and then people see him sitting around and think he's just a lazybutt.
Then he has days where he's pain-free and is so glad to be out doing everyday things like going shopping and taking out the trash pain-free people think he's a faker. Can't win...at least a missing leg is easy for most to understand

Thread from this local reporter starting night of April 11, a crowd of about a hundred people walked towards the police station, police declared "unlawful assembly" and opened up on them with tear gas and flashbangs the minute they got close. Timestamps on the video look to me like the crowd hadn't even started walking at 9:50 PM. They were opening up with the tear gas at 10:19 National Guard was on scene by 12:30 AM.

How long did it take someone to call up the NG at the Capitol? 3 hours? Media had barely got a hold of the story and they were already on site...they were ready...podunk police station better prepared than the US Capitol, lol
