Operating systems age control

IMHO the politicians who want to solve issues with wrong solutions, such as new useless laws, should get out of the way and let societies, especially families, address such issues.

Who is the best judge and educator of a persons ability to handle a responsibility?

It used to be the parents and community but in the last 100 years we seem to get and allow politicians trying to make decisions for the public for which perhaps past leaders could attempt to perform but now are largely knee jerk reactions to percieved failures.

Worse it used to be the person who was responsible for themselves. Adults, the community, and educators helped shape our lives and actions based on simple rules. Now with politicians creating false categories based on age trying to create laws to rule us. How misguided is that?

Why are now politicians more powerful than family and community members?

What happens to a child who in todays terms is no longer taught responsibility for themselves? ...and then turns some magic age and is now allowed to or expected to do something for themselves?

I've seen too many teenage drivers, drinkers, and so on who that haven't made it home the day after turning the magic age.

Let us get back to allowing the community to educate children to become adults in various skills and turn them loose when they demonstrate a reasonable responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Think about that a bit. Then help shape people into the adults they can become.

I'm not asking anyone personally to shape all aspects of another persons life. Anyone who has tried knows how difficult it is. Yet we must educate people to be responsible. If not, they won't be reponsible. Don't blame the technology when a person errs. It was the persons own fault.

And, what do you do when those families FAIL to address those issues? Drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies, firearm misuse... what sort of measure of "parenting ability" does this indicate?

The entity that actually TAKES RESPONSIBILITY for these things.

Ah, yes. The Church and the PTO are the solution to all life's woes. Guess THEY are to blame for society's ills! Maybe pass some laws giving them more authority -- that's the ticket! <rolls eyes>

The government isn't FORCING parents to abdicate their responsibilities to educate THEIR offspring.

Seems to me, those PARENTS have already dropped the ball.

As THEY are the voters in those families, it seems they WANT someone else to do the heavy lifting -- so THEY don't have to!

It is hard to tell I can only speak for myself, my own experiences I grew up in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and even in primary school there were street gangs of kids of may age I remember when my father sent me to an 'uncle' (he was not really an uncle but we all called him uncle) just a few streets away and was awaited by the local street gang there.. 'Hey boy where are you going?' This is our street, go back.. I explained I needed to join 'Uncle' on his fishing trip (was a fishing competition), they did not believe me.. So I said 'join me, we go to him.. They did, and when they did see me enter his house they decided I was one of them... And religions, could not play with a girl that was catholic if I was not catholic. And police, once got chased out by a police man with a gun when playing in a park, was not allowed.. Gangs everywhere, high school gangs later You would steal what you could not rob, do what you could get away with. Guns, we had only one gun so switched gun between lesson so who all had a chance at carrying it But then I was a difficult person to bring up, so my parents sent me to a boarding school... At some point I ran away. They finally were cornered and asked 'what do you want?' Told them I wanted to study electronics, then ended up studying that .. private school... did not take much time, had been my hobby since the fifties of last century.

And then after school and exams worked for the army and navy (design), almost got killed on a navy ship, quit, went into broadcasting, did that for many years, then moved to America and low and behold travelling all over the US with some hippies .. working here and there in jobs we found in the local papers. Got almost killed several times, was with the gangs in NY ..good thing I had seen West Side Story, was all normal to me.. was in jail with illegal immigrants near the Mexican border.. Worked for the police in Miami,, could write a book... What is right? If you, as young kid, do not learn what is going on in social media, then you will be endangered later in life.

Jan never got enough education to realise that Einstein's theory of relativity isn't actually crap, and that the Le Sage theory of gravitation actually is crap. My nephew that works for Google pissed me off this afternoon. He's got access to some kind of Artificial Intelligence tool that let him e-mail me a hare-brained pseudo-physics paper that looked perfectly plausible until you tried work out what was actually being said. When I pointed that there wasn't any reference to experimental evidence, I got version two, which went on about experimental evidence without saying anything meaningful. Jan Panteltje would have been charmed.

It is exactly the other way around You dwell in the imagination of your own greatness while I live in a real world. Even the simplest mind will see 'fusion power' and Onestone's bended space is all crap without a mechanism. I read a "but". There are other states/countries that also want to put age control into oses. As long as there is one, Linux distros have to implement it, or ignore that country (this system is not legal in (whereever)).

Politicians and King Kongs want control over their slaves. That is nothing new. Especially when those Kongs are on the paylist of manufacturers, MS windows, AI companies, what not.

Certainly, but distros have to comply with the local laws. You may later recompile to your liking, of course, but 'they' have a problem if just a single country laws demand that feature. That's all I'm saying.

It's not being spent on fusion - it is being spent to work out whether one particular way of getting fusion power is going to be practical. It is certainly expensive, but it may be a profitable investment. Einstein made a significant contribution to the physical theory which underpins the idea, but the people working on it are more engineers than parrots.

It might seem easier for OS vendors to vend a "kit", since it may be easy enough to add an attribute to logon/session, then in linux to make "a module" interface to the thing.

Then the responsibility would be on the end-user to comply with their local laws, and the OS vendors would have a very good case that using their software in violation of the law is against their own terms and not their fault.

I.e., the law on its face is quite un-enforceable, and would be challenged quite directly.

Matters of authentication about the principal of the account or the identification, after things like "radius" and "identd" and all these sorts of things like the ISP's accounts of identification and so on, seems that adding "age" would mostly be about the information brokers wanting that last piece of the puzzle, yet of course authentization then for authorization or usually enough "AuthN/AuthZ", these are involved.

I was looking into e-mail one time and about how e-mail is basically the fungible item of identity, or these days also it's phone-numbers, or the IMEI or IMSI or whatever is the phone-number caller ID these days, anyways e-mail has it that some countries were looking to make permanent e-mail addressing for their citizens, though that's in Europe and they have reasonable privacy regulations that are lacking in variously under-regulated or over-regulated locales.

Anyways I absolutely detest the idea of any "service" making for identification, since if it's to be used for government identification then it should be government identification, and there's no taxation-without-representation, so there's basically instead about the cryptographic algorithms and multiple factors what goes into attesting for an account, that it's associated with an identity, as then that person has a birth-date.

I.e., the idea is that government ID basically comes with a signing key and a public key, then that attestations can check a key.

Anyways for things like FCC Part 15 then the usual idea is to vend a "kit" and the end-user assembles the kit themself.

Mostly the idea that "system accounts" are humans at all is ludicrous.

Matters of delegation and authentication though are profound, mostly about delegation and who's running the system account, then pretty much most matters of identity are already somewhere in the "7-layer OSI model" de facto.

I usually download Linux distros from wherever it is in the world. There are many servers, some close some far away. Will they block those sites? Release specific country versions of debian?

The whole damned control of everything gets more silly and stupid everyday. And they all dance to the out of tune sounds of King Kong.

Or maybe you get a config file entry: 'enable kernel age checking' could be default, and comment it out after install and reboot to get rid of it. Many other options work that way.

A 3 year old can add # at the start of the line #enable kernel age checking 55 and for Taliban the age checking will then be 9 years...
