Only one EV charger at home?!

"Skill"? You press on the accelerator to go faster, you press on it less to slow down. Didn't you already know that???

When I got my Tesla, they seemed to have a "partial" mode. I asked how to engage that for a couple of weeks to get used to it, before I used the full Monty. The saleswoman reacted a bit strongly, saying I shouldn't do that as it's an important feature of the car. So I didn't, and two days later I was used to it.

What does take some getting used to, is not having the regenerative braking if you charge close to 100%. So I don't do that. It's also a bit more wear on the battery.

I don't recall a loss of regeneration in the cold. I think it has to be pretty severe cold. Just getting down to freezing doesn't make so much of an impact, from my recollection.

My Kia has a real time mileage readout. I remember filling the tank and starting through light city traffic. Every time I stopped at a light, I could see the mileage drop as it idled. So, clearly there is a mileage impact, a noticeable one.

A very common arrangement for British cars in the fifties and sixties was drum brakes with two leading shoes at the front and one leading, one trailing at the back.

There were two hydraulic cylinders in each of the front wheels, one operating each shoe with a single cylinder at the back operating both shoes. At the other end of the rear shoes was the handbrake actuator

I was in a friend's car with the auto cut-off at lights. It worked very well, with the restart being almost unnoticed. There was no real delay unless you are the lead car in the line and even then, it's no more than your reaction time, so in the noise. I'm sorry my car doesn't have that.

What an impressive technical analysis. Thank you.

So you're faulty then.

I had a 1976 Mini at one time.

The problem I had with the brakes was they always needed mending. I must have changed all 6 slave cylinders at least once in the time I had it :(

But braking while reversing was never an issue. After all I reverse at maybe a tenth of my max forward speed. (which is about 60MPH in a Mini!)

It doesn't need 1st. It used the torque convertor to start in 2nd.

I've driven an auto VW Golf, Honda CRV, and Range Rover. None of them behaved as you said, in fact they were much quicker to overtake and pull out of junctions, since they instantly jumped into the lowest gear possible as soon as I accelerated. In a manual I either have to waste time changing gear before overtaking, or sit in a low gear waiting for the gap. Your car was very faulty and you should have returned it.

The thing is they could most likely understand it. But we can't understand them. Educated English don't have an accent, they have a lack of it (because of higher intelligence).

You have a manual transmssion with a very high ratio, slowing down is easy. the brakes are only needed so stop from slow,

I still went full tilt into a gatepost when turning round in a hurry in my father's pre-war Sumbeam Talbot 10. That had rod-operated Bendix brakes which were useless in reverse. At first sight they looked like one leading and one training shoe on each wheel but there was some linkage between the shoes which made then behave like twin leading shoes

- and twin trailing shoes in reverse!

Then don't stop so unexpectedly.

If you want a bigger gap, move faster, why do you blame them? The distance between you can be adjusted by either driver.

I don't brake for people like you, I report you for insurance fraud.

Why would you need to use the tail light?

I used the reverse lights to signal to the person behind me they really shouldn't have their lights on during the day. The Sierra turned it on as you moved the gearstick to the left, before going up to engage the gear, so I could flash them.

Why not just undertake? That really annoys them.

Then tailgate them and pass on the message.

Are you a girl?

The aircon would have long since died. Aircon is s*it in a house, in a vibrating car it doesn't last.

But then you get the wankers in BMWs with blue headlights.

I sit in the fast lane because I'm the fastest. Maybe once in every 5 hours someone wants to overtake, I see them in the mirror and move over long before they reach me.

It's a rule you can pass on the other side over there? Isn't that too complicated for Merkins?

I pass on whichever side is clear. F*ck the law.
