He's right about killing property values and birds. Burning windmills could cause cancer, but that's a minor effect.

I'm surprised they don't plumb the tower so that the fire dept can hook up and douse the flames. Cheers

Not sure he's correct, see below. As for birds, I've read buildings kill far more than windmills, perhaps the kill rate at Trump's towers are right up there.

Ten major studies in three countries of 1.3 million property transactions over 18 years of data have found no connection between wind farms and property values.

Many studies have shown that wind power increases the value of homes with turbines on the property. And importantly, it does not affect nearby neighbors' property values long-term.

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory authors collected data on almost 7,500 sales of single family homes situated within 10 miles of 24 existing wind facilities in nine U.S. states. The analysis finds that if property value impacts exist, they are too small and/or too infrequent to result in any widespread, statistically observable impact, although the possibility that individual homes or small numbers of homes have been or could be negatively impacted cannot be dismissed.

Pumping water into an electrical fire is generally considered a bad idea. Most wind turbine fires start with a bearing or braking system failure. Both of these are sealed in metal housings, which are difficult (or impossible) to access externally. Same with a steel rack full of control electronics.

There are automatic fire suppression systems for wind turbines and generators which use non-conductive fire suppression chemicals:

Once it's well on fire, it probably doesn't generate much electricity.

Tooling around the web and getting dragged off to watch burning wind turbines, they mostly show intense fires that cannot be put out. In fact, frequently the metal tower collapses as well, don't understand why that should happen.

Trump bashing is a popular (if tedious to watch) sport. If I turn on NPR on my car radio, the median delay to hearing "Trump" or the equivalent is literally seconds. That's almost all they talk/snark/snicker about. The New York Times is about as bad.

He usually makes sense, which doesn't concern them.

His popularity is increasing, because the real working class of the "interior" USA is not as dumb as the coastals want them to be.

A university degree was supposed to teach people how to think. Was.

The lever arm is pretty long and wind forces can be high. The concrete pads flip over too.

Given the nonsense Trump spouts on an 9almost) daily basis, the only sport it could be compared to is shooting fish in a barrel.

What I don't understand is that people still believe him and listen to him.

He made sense w.r.t. Boeing grounding the 737 variant.

I agree. Clearly it doesn't achieve that.

No. He lied. He said you property would go down by 75%. Sorry, but that is a lie.

And birds? Quite seldom.

The old style maybe. The new ones don't burn.

You must have sniffed some of that cyano-gas yourself.

Do you know how much pressure it takes to pump water up that high?

Better to place a reservior of dry chem retardant or such up in the gen house.

Sure, the kind of people who know it's bullshit too but get a cheap thrill out of him running off at the mouth and spouting nonsense to get a reaction. like the kind of who enjoy trolling newsgroups on the regular.

There are enough Americans with no real problems in life to enjoy that fashion of President.

Meanwhile, American's enemies have got some "really smart" people working for them as well who don't like to bloviate nearly as much. George W. was reading about a pet goat when the Twin Towers were destroyed and this doofus will be golfing or telling a joke when the next strike happens. That'll look real good.

His popularity can't get much worse and it is NOT improving. He took a har d hit during the government shutdown. His approval rating was below 40% fo r a while as it was the entire second half of 2017. Now it has bounced bac k up to the very low 40% range where it has been through pretty much all of 2018. So from what level has it improved? You mean from the big drop ove r the government shutdown?

The only time his approval rating was higher than his disapproval rating wa s for the week after he was elected... lol!

Anyone who thinks Trump makes sense doesn't actually listen to what he says . John is proving this by ignoring that Trump said being near a windmill w ill lower your property value by 75%. John commented on the concept but ig nored the number which is what Trump's statement is all about. But that do esn't fit John's model of the world, so like Trump so often does, he makes his own reality and ignores the real world.

It is fun to watch them burn to the ground, if your into that.

Some mentioned in the past, brake and pitch control failures were
 the most common failures .
