I mentioned I was considering using the NXJ1 series in a
1kV pulser, in your "5 to 10kV rated gate transformers" thread a ways back.I did in fact use them and I'm very pleased. The low Ciso was super helpful. They're less efficient than other alternatives, and the client had some failures that appear to be "you gotta put a fan in that closed-box! " heat-related, but we're still not sure. The spec sheet shows a surprisingly aggressive de-rating factor with high Tamb, though.
So I switched to using them for the flying parts, and substituted more efficient dc-dc converters for the parts that stay still. I also changed the flying sections from daisy-chained converters (making dual supplies) to parallel-powered:
