I need to add current limit to a buck converter. The buck converter is good for about 1.5A -2A (TPS62110) while I would like to limit the current to about 0.2 amps. The reason I am using such a large converter is that I already have 2 on the board and it has a lot of other functions that I need) The converter is selectable 5v or 8v output. I am considering a resettable fuse kind of a thing but I suspect if the output is shorted I will get large narrow pulses that the resettable fuse will not respond to. I am not sure what my inductor will do with these large narrow pulses. Assuming the wire can handle the rms current, will the ferrite core have a problem with the large 2.5A pulses. Inductor is rated for 1.5A before Isat.
I would like something like a Fairchild FPF2164 except it has to go to
8v, or else something like a STmicro L6377 except it has to go down to
5v. Unitrode/TI makes a part that might work, but it is a bit of a dinosaur (UC37131).
I will be going to all the vendors today, but if anybody knows of somethingoff the top of head then please speak up.
