need help igbts welder

Do you have an AC stick welder? Like a buzzbox? Is that right?

What kind of HF unit do you have?

XR-2206 is very easy to use and does exactly what I wanted. (variable frequency with SEPARATELY controlled duty cycle).

What's the welder?

Well, all that doodads and little thingies are going to add up significantly, espoecially when they start blowing up and need to be replaced.

I am not trying to dissuade you from your project, I am doing something very similar myself, just want to share my experiences.

I do have money to blow (and try to finance my activities by reselling stuff on ebay rather than tap into family finances), but, making AC square inverter was not a very cheap project.

yes i do have buzzbox 30amps to 225amps and have done welding with it and the HF box was made from a circuit from yahoo boards it is just like a tesla coil so i no that ot is safe becoz i have bulit a tesla coil and i have been welding with the tig torch for 1 year now the way i have it and how did you like the web site that i put up ??????? and all of it to build it does not cost much

So, how does the stuff work now? I am a little confused. Does it weld well? Usually, TIG welding requires higher open circuit voltages than seen on buzzboxes. Are your arcs good? What about your HF unit?

I am not sure what website you are referring to, I would love to look at your website if you have one.

yes it does weld real good for a 220volt welder... open circuit voltage is 90v to 120v.. the HF unit works on dc only but it "will not work on ac" has some thing to do with the HF unit being 120Volt and the welder being 220volt.. the HF unit will start at 30 amps and the welder has a high side and a low side on the out put.. this was the site

and i do paln on puting up a site as soon as i get it done .... and the caps would get hooked up to G2 and E2 on the igbts they are the same that you did your first setup with MG200Q2YS40

the site has the circuit that iam useing. the datasheet for the IR2110 does not have that much to go on :-((

LOOKED on welder shorted 30v 25v open 80v but that whent up with the diodes on it and it is a single phase 220volt and the cap that i have on it are 2400uf 450volt and ther are 2 of them for 4800uf could not use tig with out them...

I am not completely sure that he has a finished working welding machine. I did not see any pictures of his welds. I have insufficient expertise to say whether it is a good or bad setup.

Myself, I have a little bit different philosophy, due to my own much more limited expertise compared to him. I do not try to reinvent the wheels and I try not to use any dumpster components (MOTs). Hence, my use of off the shelf equipment like a firing board and existing

3 phase welder, microcontroller instead of relay schematics, etc.

I have a welder now that is working, in a limited sense, but it makes pretty cute stick weld beads.

i have sent him emails on it and he has been nice on alot of the things that i have asked him on. and looking at the datasheets on the ic chips i can see how it works and i can not get the stuff to program pic chips!! I dont like them that much becoz programing is something that i do not get!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a computer programmer, so I write code all day long.

The relays click at appropriate moments (based on "faking of inputs").

thats nice BTW how much did it cost??? that is the big thing for me you would think that the price on the stuff would go down but not much from what i have seen. And i just like doing this stuff with my hands. i just cant sit at a computer all day i have to get up and do stuff!!!!!!!!!! i have been thinking about get a programer but they just cost to much. one thing i can do that is to fix windows xp if it gives me a problem by useing ms dos and i can delete files that wont let you delete them out :-)

IIRC, the controller cost $102.50, plus some amount for the LED display.

For me, I also planned on just using a bunch of relays, time delay relays etc.

Then I realized that I do not yet know the details of some welding processes such as MIG and plasma cutting. Plus, I realized that it would be nice to have some features like pulsed TIG, etc.

With a microcontroller, making changes and implementing these features amounts to simple programming in BASIC. Whereas with relays, it is a major undertaking to make any changes.

you will like this he sad that he put in time delay relays for the stuff to come up to temp and i do not see how that could be.. temp should not be problem when you see pepole use it out side???? and how long of a time should you wate for it to come up to temp????

on this note i have fixed some stuff like 2 tv's 13" and a 26" the 13" has a bad ic chip in it and the 26" had a bad cap.. two motherboards that had bad caps the caps in the boards whear esey to see s*it they came out with a pull. and one guy that builds computers sad that repalceing the would not work.
