Well I got a HP 5316A universal counter, with the 1GHz channel and theOCXO.Very nice, I think. Although I suppose I still have the problem of notknowing exactly the frequency of the OCXO is, after all there arecoarse and fine adjustments on the can...Eh, still, I'm pretty happy with the cheap stuff you can get with abit of patience.I think that I will build a 10V "standard" from my AD588s, in a nicebox.So, what kind of connectivity do you guys have in yuor lab? Iseverything GPIB, USB, or some mix?

Yeah, but mine cost $5 plus shipping. ;)

300 fA FS on the most sensitive scale for the 410. Currently the offset is running about 30 fA. Of course a lot of the resistors have drifted in 50 years--some by as much as 5-6%. I'm betting that the nice glass encapsulated ones have done better, but that'll take a bit of measuring...maybe a CMOS op amp running off a battery, with a capacitor for feedback, wired in series with the micro-microammeter.

It also has less than 1 mV of burden voltage, because it's a TIA in disguise.

Pretty good for toobs!

You must be pretty thick if you couldn't get HPs own GPIB kit to work properly. Never had any bother with Solartron either. Some very early

3rd party kit during the HPIB to GPIB transition was a bit flaky. And there were some bad homebrew IEEE devices around in universities but most of HP's kit would work first time and as advertised provided that you gave each instrument a unique address on the bus. User error was very common.

HP disk drives were a bit naughty and deliberately used response sequences to blind the commercial IEEE bus analysers of the day. Not that it affected us very much. Compared to RS232/RS485 it was stellar.

It wasn't all that slow if implemented well. And at the time it first came out was both reliable and fast but over relatively short distances.

What kind of problem? If you have an older Prologix do a firmware upgrade. The designer (Abdul) and I have found out that the logic threshold on the Prologix is way too high. After some discussion it turned out that pull-up resistors could be engaged inside the uC in the Prologix. Not a perfect solution but that made it work with the HP3577. So Abdul changed the firmware and made that available.
