All other MP3 manufacturers and users, including Microsoft, Apple Computers, are likely to be hit by the Alcatel-Lucent law suits.



Is there any other MP3 chip set that can avoid this law suit?

** AFAIK - the suit is not over use of the MP3 compression format as such.
** MP3 is done in software in a PC.

Only MP3 decoding is a defined standard.

An MP3 encoder is open to creative (software) design.

A few of the "pods" support the format, so I gather there is a chip that can be used to support it.

How? Isn't MP3 an algorithm and thus unpatentable?
