That rise is the Al Gore effect. Select the most alarming data and ignore data from the time periods that are embarrassing.

Sure, I much prefer snot-nosed capitalists than nose-in-the-air communists. The capitalist has no interest in controlling me. I noticed that you didn't even read what I wrote. Typical loony leftist loser.

I like that, "leftist loser". I'll add that to my "leftist weenie" repertoire ;-)

Exactly. The capitalist offers you deals, which you can take or not. And other capitalists compete to offer you better deals. The socialist gives or takes, but you get little choice in the matter, and no competition.

Sloman seems to be losing it. All he does is preen and insult.

John Larkin does tend to repeat himself. He still thinks that "socialist" is just another name for "communist".

Modern socialists have nothing against the free market as such - which are thriving in countries like England, Australia and the Netherlands, where modern moderate socialist "labour" parties are running the government. They are aware of the weaknesses of the free market, and regulate it to prevent these weaknesses from damaging the economy. The U.S. Serman Anti-Trust Act in 1890 is an early example of this sort of legislation, as minimum wage laws

I guess commenting on John Larkin's unwillingness to learn could be seen as an insult, and presenting him with new information from my - rather more abundant - store could be seen as "preening", but the alternative would be to leave him to fester in hois own ignorance, which would be uncharitable.

A little more variety would be nice. Some content would be even nicer.

Still, I supose Jim is too busy engineering his final solution to the problem posed by people who don't share his (remarkably defective) political opinions to waste time on thinking about the implications of his politcal opinions.

Who'd want to take the responsibility for a toxic waste dump? The socialist at least will do something to prevent it polluting other people's back yards.

I read it, but while it was wrong - as usual - there wasn't any active misinformation that I could pillory

is what you might have written, if you knew what you were talking about.

JT's non-technical postings have always fit into a narrow jingoistic spectrum, but recently he has become especially clueless. It makes me worry that he might be suffering from the effects of treatment for his hip replacement (painkillers? steroids?) or if he has suffered a small stroke.

Communists don't want the responsibility for anything, Sloman. You want control. There is a difference.

No, you obviously didn't because your response was nonsense.

I know what I'm talking about, slowly. I thought perhaps you were smart enough to figure it out.

Where did the communists come from? You may think that there are some hiding under your bed, but it isn't a political movement that anybody else takes seriously these days.

And why would I want control? It does seem fairly clear that you ought to be locked up in a nice quiet padded cell where you silly misconceptions aren't likely to damage you or anybody else, but I don't happen to run any kind of refuge for the politically incoherent, and I have not plans to get into that business.

There, there - I'm sorry you couldn't make sense of it, but you may do better after you get a brain implant.

An unconvincing claim.

Sadly, being smarter than you doesn't make me superhuman. I have mastered elementary mind-reading, but all that this reveals is that you don't even have an elementary mind - in fact it isn't clear that you've got a mind at all.

17,

Ever look in a mirror, Sloman?

...I suppose not.

You didn't answer, loser.

You're easily unconvinced (of any thing other than your superiority), loser.

It is sad that you're such a loony leftist loser, lowman.

Even your notoriously paranoid security services haven't been silly enough to think I'm a communist.

I was cleared to "most secret" when I was working on Prject Mallard back in 1970, and that was high enough to get me into U.S. Army ECOM at Fort Monmouth. The clearance was renewed in 1976 when I went to work at EMI Central Research in west London.

Brain-damaged right-wingers do see "communism" and subversion in the oddest places - Jim Thompson in the OT: Atheist joke thread, 28 March 2006 at 4:48 pm

but you should try and recognise these delusions for what they are. If you take them seriously and let other people know how confused ideas are, your credibility can take a serious hit - as Jim's must have done.

I have been the subject of attacks in another newsgroup (nothing to do with electronics or security). My antagonist there has threatened to inform my employer of my activities. I have repsonded that my best defense would be to show my employer ALL of his content and let the employer judge which party is acting like a loon.
