Hi



Started one place, led to looking at Macbook schematics

Was just skimming pages, on page 42, there is current sense of CPU DDR



And all kinds of other voltage/current sense circuits



I would assume that one would not need to monitor the current into a DDR RAM, it should be able to estimate it per design. Reasons of these circuits?



Interestingly, a lot of MOSFETs to turn circuits on/off depending on the power state of the computer.

They're trying to conserve battery life and guesstimate charge remaining.

I power down the entire field when I need to penny-pinch (it also serves to prevent the field from rendering the processor unable to report).

Yes, but then you would just measure the current in the battery, and not the DDR RAM consumption?

I think the powersupply is quite clever in that it throttles cpu, gpu etc. to stay within a power and thermal budget

Looking at energy drawn from the battery is like looking at the rate of fuel consumed in a vehicle; it doesn't tell you HOW it is being used/wasted so you can't make intelligent decisions.

I'll wager they also tweek the operating voltage of the memory array so they can slow the system down (reducing voltage and then current) to better fit the needs of the running application. I.e., if you're spending 20% of your time in an idle loop, then you're effectively running 20% faster than you need to!
