LR8 high volltage linear regulators

Is there any reason that Supertex LR8 regulators cannot be used withexternal pass elements in a similar way as their low voltage (LM317)cousins in order to increase the available current ?. Looking for anadjustable (50..350volt /150ma) regulator to run from a 400v rawsupply, and the Supertex part looks ideal except for the 10ma rating,and strangely, current boosting is not mentioned in the apps notes. Anybetter parts out there ?.M
