Another option is Wireless, standard 802.15.4 chip can handle 256Kb/s x 24 channels. Each channel can handle a 16 bits A2D with 16Kb/s, so eight $3 c hips would do it. If you worry about channel overcrowding and/or cost, mo st chips support x3 or x4 turbo (non-standard mode). As long as you use th e same chip at both end, that's not a big problem. So, 2 to 3 chips should work.
