You really can't blame them for asking. With all the CC fraud these days. Usually a company does this because the shipping address you gave them does not match your CC billing address. Mine is that way. CC billing address is a PO Box. Shipping is my street number address. I had my CC company add my street address to my account and problem went away.....Paul

This is not SOP, in fact the agreements for most card companies specifically state that the vendor may not ask for any identification over and above the card itself.

Kelvin electronics is a small outfit that supplies educational kits and supplies for a few schools etc. they also have a some what good supply of basic things. in this case i needed some NE2 bulbs only and their site popped up to give me exactly what i needed after a long failed search for these items. so while i was there i decided to get some other interesting things of need at a good price. any ways, to make a long story short. i placed a $100 order, went through all the online card verification crap , email etc.. all was fine. this morning i get an e-mail indicating that their policy has changed and would require me to send them a fax of my drivers license, and Credit card before they would owner the order. i sent them back a nice E-Mail, i also told them that i will be sending my Credit card company a copy of the e-mail that requested this info. so for any one's interest, if you decide to buy anything there you better be prepared to use a check/ money order. what really gets me is that they had no problem accepting a personnel check with out an FBI check up. sounds alittle shady to me. just thought you mite want to know.

That is curious. Did the shipping address on your order match the billing address of the credit card?

Tell them to buzz off! NE-2's are available from Mouser, page 30 of the current catalog. One dosen't have to put up with crap from vendors there are many options out there. Bob

I live in NZ where we don't seem to have this problem, but was recently in Chicago with girlfriend. Whenever she bought anything with her CC she was asked for further ID (oddly enough, I wasn't!). Go figure. I guess if you don't like it so much, change countries. :-)

Cheers.
