A pollster asks a question, they visualize, and they answer. The pollster rephrases the question and they give a different answer. If they were thinking, aka questioning, they would have thought of alternate forms of the question themselves.

The real problem with thinking is that most people are social first.

Richard Feynman, a pretty smart guy, wrote a book titled "What Do You Care What Other People Think?" A sort-of autistic indifference to social pressures is practically a necessity for original thinking, which he did.

John Larkin is just as bad as Phil Allison. Austistic people have trouble working out what other people are thinking - they aren't indifferent to it.

Richard Feynman wasn't remotely autistic, but he was smart enough to know that having new and unconventional ideas paid off even if other people took a while to get their heads around them. I got one patent out of realising that enough people had told me that a perfectly simple idea wasn't right for it to be fairly clear that it wasn't as obvious to those skilled in the art as I had originally thought. That doesn't exactly put me in Feynman's league, but I may have an edge on John Larkin.
