A heartfelt congratulations from me. I lost my two older brothers to cancer 22 and 29 years ago. I'm sure they'd have lived much longer if they'd had the benefit of early detection. Their doctors were incredibly incompetent even for that era. OTOH I know people who are doing well 5, 10, even 20+ years after they were diagnosed with cancer.

Agnosticism is a little more aggressive than that. There's no evidence that any "god" exists, and those people who think that they've got personal mes sages from some god or other are - in practice - indistinguishable from peo ple who suffer from other kinds of hallucination. There is a group who will tell you that they've had personal messages from god, but they are - in pr actice - indistinguishable from other kinds of confidence tricksters.

The religious are welcome to persist with their silly ideas, and some of th em can be quite constructive, but they shouldn't inflict them on the unpers uaded.

Sadly, cancers apear more frequently as you get older, so surviving one just lines you up for another (if something else doesn't kill you first).

Can't say I prayed for Jim's recovery - if you doubt that there's a god to pray to, it's not worth the effort.

Why? It would be a trivially incorrect definition, as a matter of actual fact.

Yes. Pancreatic cancer is usually symptom-free until it's too late.

Thru a fortunate twist of fate, my tumor encroached on the bile duct causing the symptoms of a gall stone blockage... the big "yellow" event :-)

When they went in (laparoscopically) to stent my bile duct they could see the tumor, thus my early (successful, it seems) treatment. ...Jim Thompson
