IRFZ44 SPICE specification question

Sep 30, 2011 3 Replies

Could some electronics guru please clarify this a bit ? The SPICE specification for the power MOSFET IRFZ44 states:

*60V 50A .028 ohm HEXFET pkg:TO-220 2,1,3

What exactly does the first part mean, i.e., maximum drain-source current of 50A at drain voltage of 60 V ? Thanks in advance.

Look at the data sheet. No, you can't have them all at once.

Most Likely Vdss, Id, Rds(on). But it doesn't match the specs in the data sheet.

The datasheet has Vdss =3D 55V, Id =3D 49A, Rds(on) =3D 17.5mOhm

BVDss 60V Rds(on) 0.028 ohms (actually 0.024 in IR datasheet) Id max 50A at 25C

This doesn't mean that it will support 60 volts whilst passing 50 amps. It won't. Refer to safe operating area in datasheet.
