Hi, I'm trying to work out the range that a heat-seeking missile can detect an aircraft from. I have an equation in my textbook for this, and it has given some standard values for mosst parameters, but not all of them. I don't even know what they mean, but all I really need are standard expected values for this application rather than an understanding of what they mean exactly.
The paremeters are:
ec: loss or extinction coefficient per kilometer between the target and the IR sensor across the band ( the waveband is 1-3microns)
Ad: IR detector area (the area of the optical entrance pupil is 100 cm^2)
Lband: average atmospheric propagation loss fraction across the band
If anybody has could give me even an estimate of these paremeters for an IR missile, I would really appreciate your help.
Many thanks, Adam
