By a cheap thermostat from Home Depot. Mount it inside the unit and connect it to the fan.
why a thermostat? wouldn't u need to measure the load not the temperature? so buy a device that will meausure the watts and then when it gets above 8 or 9 watts activate the fan
It may not be as easy as putting a 'stat in the box! If the fan is 'smart',ie: has a tach pin, then the invertor should shut down if it doesn't see the fan spin. At least that's the way I've designed productsthat needed fans for cooling. Check the fan and see if it has 3 wires, if so, i has a tach in it. jay
you could. But ultimnately all that matters is heatsink temperature - if it gets "too hot" turn the fan on; when its "cool enough" turn the fan off. Its a whole lot easier and cheaper.

What is meant by no load? It seems to me that if the minimum load is 7W, then there will never be "no load," and the fan will therefore always be on in your scheme to "stop the cooling fan from operating when there is no load."
Obviously, I'm being too literal-minded, but I am also genuinely perplexed.
For example, if "no load" really means "7 Watt load," then I guess I wonder how you can be sure that the fan is not needed?

and if some rat bastard like me implemented a constant-loss algorithm to minimise dT, then switching the fan off based on output load would be a very bad idea. Highly unlikely in a poxy little inverter though.
