Interesting study in killfiling

Ok, far from scientific. But I've noticed the only posters that threaten t o killfile are ones that I'd identify as just a little more than right of c enter. This is intriguing. Perhaps a common attribute among this crowd is a propensity to stick their head in the proverbial sand.

Killfiling someone isn't a declaration of victory. It's a declaration the one doing the killfiling is thin-skinned and easily offended.

The term killfiling is rather repugnant. It suggests the desire to remove the individual from life.

Perhaps roundfiling would be better as that is where most of my spam, etc. ends up - in the trash.

Or is that to PC for the few folks here who would rather shoot(roundfile) than consider alternative viewpoints?

This is way OT though, I come here to learn about design and I get caught up in political and other discussions which have nothing to do with electronic design. I am trying to go back to just lurking and poking my notes up once in a while if I think I have something constructive to say - or a reasonable question to ask.

?? A curious interpretation indeed. The term actually refers to deleting

*posts* originating from certain individuals, not the individuals themselves. And it usually arises only after it becomes perfectly clear that there is no hope of ever reading anything of any value from the individual concerned and much time has already been wasted in establishing this fact.

Cursitor Doom's capacity to learn does seem limited, and he does reject views of the world that involve him learning something new, and slightly less incorrect, than the view he currently embraces.

Granting his limitations, kill-filing better-informed opinion does save him from the humiliation of having to face these embarrassing facts.

Yes, but /why/ does he show repeated "inability" to do it effectively?

One explanation is observe that insecure trolls crave attention and feedback of any sort.

He's complained before that his access system only allows him to kill-file for a finite time - about six months?

Most humans do.

suggests that most humans feel the need have some kind of relationship with about 150 people. We are social animals, though not yet as locked into it as the naked mole rat, the ants and the bees.

Geneticists suggest that we are evolving quite fast at the moment, and that may be the direction we are going in. Resistance to infectious disease used to be the fiercest selective agent, but reproductive success may have taken over.

If so, it must be a strange proprietary access system.

If it discomforts him so much, perhaps he could investigate the use of things called "calendars". They used to be popular.

Indeed, but he does seem to make such spectacularly imbecilic postings that it appears the /objective/ is to provoke responses. That, of course, is different to trying to engage in conversations.

The are nut cases in every belief system. Generalising from a specific moron - such as Cursitor Doom or Wanderer - isn't a good way of working how other people who share some of the same beliefs might behave.

There are also jokers around who post obvious and deliberate nonsense to amuse other people. Taking such a joke as if it were seriously meant can be a bit embarrassing.

Because we don't agree with you on everything, riiiigggghtttt. As the gay pride folks say, we're here. Get used to it.

Killfiling isn't aggressive, it's just a way of having different discussion communities on the same group. I've only KF'ed a couple of people on SED, but I tell Thunderbird to ignore discussions of politics, climate change, and so on. I expect this one to go that way soon.

Cheers

We've had it more-or-less incessantly over here this year. But that's because it is the 50th anniversary of its decriminalisation; I hope it quietens down next year.

No, when I killfile someone it is with prejudice. It may take some time, but they will eventually feel the edge of my blade...

This was supposed to be a XKCD style joke, so I searched for "xkcd killfile" but oddly enough no reference. ;(

Perhaps it's only a propensity to get tired of seeing the same old insane rants.

The Tea Party is much too insane to have regular offices. There was a Tea P arty Congressional Caucus, but it has been defunct since 2012. The Tea Part y Movement was started by the Koch brothers, and still seems to be funded b y them - as a form of astro-turfing.

Krw hasn't noticed that they are all nuts - they share his favourite delusi ons.
