I believe I've posted this question here before, and I've gone down awhole bunch of paths that have not gotten me to where I want to go.Here's the scene: You and three passengers are in a vehicle that hassomething on the order of 105 dBa of noise, mainly exhaust and windnoise.In order not to go deaf over time, all the occupants wear muff-stylehearing protectors with audio transducers inside to listed to theradio or tape deck while traveling. Most of these hearing protectorscan be fairly easily converted to a true headset by bolting amicrophone onto one of the ear cups.We want the driver and all the passengers to be able to communicateamongst themselves during the trip. Seems like a fairly easy problemto solve, but I've not been able to come up with a good solution.Oh, and did I mention that this is a consumer device and needs to beunder $100 for all four people plus a central switching unit?At first blush it would seem like there are two main ways of doingthis ... optical and RF. We sort of eliminated the optical because we had a heck of a timemaking this work in a convertible with the sun streaming in on all thesensors. We fairly quickly eliminated that method.RF? There are dozens of RF modules around, some of them dirt cheap,but when you get right down to it (and we've spent a few dozen hours)almost all of them are meant to transmit data, not audio. Sure, wecould do D/A and then A/D but remember, these folks have to carry thisstuff around on the top of their heads and now weight comes into thepicture.Can somebody point me down a path that might just work? I did fail tomention that we can require that all of these folks have a ham ticket,so that opens up a whole bunch of frequencies unavailable to thegeneral public.Thanks,Jim

That is an idea, but most owners and pilots would not dare for fear of getting the craft de-certified.
