I agree that it's a great circuit. Still, theory is one thing, practice another. The OP should do a fully realistic test before trying to apply it to his ultimate purpose.

The explosives go off while he is hooking it up. If he hooks up the battery end last (and the wires are long), having him then short the battery was the idea.
