Gee. Isn't the proposal to add capability to make it into a smart grid? That means they know what they can do right now. You also ignored that 'PLC' isn't the only way they have for remote control.

There I have my doubts.

Sure it isn't. However, I have yet to see a reliable alternative. What I've heard about the AC switches is that they must be mounted outdoors so there's enough signal.

I was told they are mounted outdoors so they can service or upgrade them without entering your home again.

Or they could just shut your electric off from the street, till you lock up the dogs.

When the meter ain't there they can't. Or they'd be in hot water. This is another reason why people often won't go for such crude "smart" solutions. The AC isn't usually streetside, and not at all where the meter is (which you must keep dogs away from).

Crude? Maybe, but no one is going to try to splice the drop to get electricity. By cutting the wires they can not be accused of entering private property without permission.

Electric meters are read by RF around here, so they don't have to enter your property.

What wire cutting?

We had one of those until it failed. And what did they replace it with? Right, with a model "Methusaleh", several rotating hands like they had in the 40's. I couldn't believe it ...

Like i said before, they will cut the two 'Line' wires from the service drop at the street, leaving only the neutral connected.

Progress Energy destroyed all the mechanical meters they pulled in Florida. They have plenty of spare digital meters on their trucks.

It doesn't surprise me that California is so out of date, though.

the

the usual technique has a series of cylindrical lenses built in that only allow seeing the plate from straight back. Most photo systems are from the side (except for ones like I designed for the 91 Express lanes... ;-) )

Because dogs are in the yard? They better not try that game with me. The meter is outside that area.

Well, I was in FL in November. They may have modern meters but they burn through tons of electricity. AC units were humming all over the place even a this time of year.

Sigh. You are hopelessly dense.

What do you expect in Florida, melting glaciers?

stupids.

Believe me, some of the regulatory and bureaucratic hurdles are a lot more onerous here. Ok, they haven't done really stupid stuff like banning light bulbs or lead solder. But other things. However, this is where the music plays when it comes to electronics.
