The schematic I posted used #43 but only had one or two multiplier stages., and smaller caps and no final output storage.

interesting. How did it work? The first thing I though was some sort of really high voltage night vision tube, but that's not someting you tuck into a mouth.

All the ecig stuff I've seen uses a heater of some sort.

When people use language like that, they are in deep water. Why not just discuss electronics, and learn something instead of attacking people?

If there's an analog input control signal, and a HV output, the overall box acts like a linear amplifier. So it has a gain, roughly

-200 maybe, and doesn't need an internal reference.

So a single 10-cent opamp could compute the error and drive the base of the Gigantic NPN Oscillator. Disappear that expensive regulator chip and its horrendous input bias current.

What's the HV load like? I'd guess something like a hundred uA max.

That is why there are not many "off-the-shelf" solutions.. Most customers have very specific requisites.

We did a 50kV, 250 Watt unit for LANL to look at nuke warheads with.

The supply and the control unit took up a half rack.

We did a 90/90 kV (180kV) unit mounted in a lead lined steel box which the old, legacy airport flat bed X-Ray machines used. Ours was overkill on quality, and ECG ended up making them. I even designed a brass enclosure for it to eliminate the lead. The X-Ray tube alone was a German made $900 unit with a 2 cubic cm Palladium target making the flux. +90kV in one end, and -90kV in the other. Result: Splash! Nice clean X-Ray flux emission from the Palladium.
