Help getting RF out of AL. box

I saw a chunk of the middle of it, when I had to kill some time until the next showing of Harry Potter. I didn't get much out of it, but I don't get much out of talking animals, especially when they're doing heavy dramatic serious shit. And when I saw/heard the king lion, all I could think of was Larry from "Father Of The Pride", which also apparently tanked. ;-)

So, if you can see it piggybacked on another flick, (i.e., buy one matinee ticket, go to movies for the rest of the day) it might be worth the price. ;-)

Cheers! Rich

Well, shame on you! You get right out there and test it, and report back!!!! ;-) ;-) ;-)

Try the simplest thing first, and do a test - since it's a cordless phone, you can just call somebody and see far away down the marina you can get before you lose the signal. Then try another configuration, call your friend again, and so on.

Well, actually, it might be worthwhile to split up those functions, i.e., one answer machine, one caller ID machine, and one high-power, long-range cordless phone. :-)

Good Luck! Rich

Hello Rich,

Nah, I never watch that kind of stuff. Never appealed to me.

Hello Rich,

Not me, it's Mike who has the boat.

When you have a paid slot in a marina you often will have a full set of utilities. Water, electricity, sewer, phone, sometimes even stuff like cable and DSL. Especially in the more upscale marinas.

Hello Mike,

Technically a nice antenna on top that is connected to the base via coax would probably give the best results. Plus a splitter for a smaller antenna for inside the boat. But that would make the thing illegal since you've then messed with the RF section.

Here is a wild idea that should keep things legal: What if you mounted the whole base on top of the boat under a plastic dome? One of those radar domes maybe, possibly with some air circ from inside so things don't become moist.

Since the package had several sets you should have individual chargers into which you can place the handset. Of course, this all assumes that the field strength inside the boat with the transmitter on top would hopefully still be sufficient. No idea if it would be.

Hello Mike,

True. But I don't trust digital answering machines much so the one in our base station remains idle and I use a tape machine. $30 or so, from GE.

OK, a pound of medium white shrimp for $8.99, from the Philipines or wherever. Some butter, garlic, black pepper, a dash of barbeque sauce. Broil and serve over pasta. Bread.

Serves four for maybe $3 each. If the shrimp are frozen, even less. Cheaper than going to Burger King.

Hello Mike,

Don't know what you wanted to say as there was no added text in the message. Or maybe my newsserver ate it. But usually it swallows the whole post if it's hungry ;-)

The sad and maddening thing here is I get people asking if I take food stamps. I say no. While in my mind I'm saying "if you can't afford to feed yourself, you can't afford to eat shrimp".
