Hi, this is just for any other google users. I just got done spam IDing ~20 cheap drug posts. I sure wish some other go ogle goop users would help with this. You just click on the triangle in th e upper right corner of the post, (more message actions) Choose 'report abu se' and then spam. three clicks... it would just be nice to have some help . (maybe you are doing this already, in which case thanks.)

Good idea. I didn't know you can do that.

I wonder if it would work for some of the John Doe's that clog up the newsg roup.

Ahh, I don't use it for 'real' people. I don't think what you suggest would be appropriate. I don't like all the OT political crud. But then sometimes I also indulge, and much as I dislike it I would not want to see OT posts go away. I post OT sciency stuff, just 'cause I want to talk about it.

A delightful side effect is Google rolls all the posts into one single entr y that says "you reported this." So you don't have to scroll through 18 ads to get at the real posts. That is a big help.

Do you use the spam or regulated products category?

Yes, I guess it would be a bad idea. The problem is once you report it, tha t topic is lost forever. You would miss a post in case someone said somethi ng important.

But I am really pleased to be able to get rid of the ads. Thanks!

Hi George - glad somebody else has taken up the habit. I've been doing it f or some months now (every since I worked out that you could).

The stuff I mark as spam has always vanished from Google groups within a fe w hours, so I figured that there had to be other people doing it.

Just spam... that's the default option and so one less mouse click. GH

done that various times, it has no effect. They have opiate drug names in t he title, if G had any wish to stop the posts it would have acted long ago. Clearly they don't.

Thanks Bill, It does go away, but I guess I was thinking that if you tagged it as spam it would also go away on my feed too... maybe that is not the case.

I agree commercial spam is commercial spam, it's nice that they give the ability to report actual spam at all. John Does posts are ah...interesting...but don't really constitute spam. there are off-topic posts but yeaaaah let anyone cast the first stone on that one.

Abuse is abuse the "report abuse" button is IMO not a "I don't like this post" button if u don't like this post you may stop reading it at any time. If it's used habitually for the latter purpose they'll just cry-wolf it and ignore it.

Google is now obviously evil. I use Agent.

Trouble is those spammers are like weeds, they just keep growing but keep up the digital glycophosphate folks !!

There is always more Spam in the can. That said, if it makes you feel better... Go for it! :)

I do this too, not because I think it accomplishes anything to prevent spam , but because it removes the posts from my visible list. Do you think it d oes anything in the grand scale?

Oh wow... The "Grand Scale"...

Make me think of the theme song from the Exorcist.

I wonder if the FDA would be interested?

I guess I was thinking, that if I called it spam then it would be blocked from everyone's view. (maybe it takes a few people?) I guess I could chec k on this by logging into google as someone else.

George H.

You don't have to. Just sign out. All the posts that are blocked from your view now become visible. Sign back in, and the posts disappear.

Google can easily keep track of your individual abuse reports.

Huh OK, this whole thread is (almost) pointless then... sorry for the excess noise.

George H.

Not at all. You showed us how to remove unwanted ads from the google list. That is a big help to reduce clutter when you are scrolling through looking for a particular post.

There is also a remote possibility that google will do something about the illegal ads.

So you deserve a big thanks for your help!
