I watched a friend's son fail first year at uni engineeering course several years running before giving up. The kid slept in until midday every day, somehow expected to learn by distance, 'I think I can'... His peers got their qualifications and jobs, living the good life, he was trying to keep up but without applying effort to build a career. H's a bar manager now.
Could be worse, his brother's been in jail and mental homes, deranged by mental illness and substance abuse. Sad.
And it's so much easier to run a warehouse with couple or few dozen employees than a factory with hundreds or thousands on the payroll. Not to mention the equipment needed for production.
The west loses basic manufacturing skills, people go work in service industries, at some point we lose the jobs for the common folk not bright enough to school themselves.

After 65 million years our artefacts would be undetectable. If we do learn enough molecular biology to do some actual intelligent design - like putting error-correcting codes into the genome - some evidence of that could last 65 million years, though the carriers might not evolve fast enough to survive that long.
