The PADS pcb software can export/import anything (schematics, parts, libraries, PCB layouts) in ASCII. Sometimes an ascii out/in loop will clean up a problem. We sometimes edit the ascii files, too.
We read the ascii files looking for goofies, like mis-spelled net names that split nets, single-pin nets, like that.
I've written a couple PowerBasic check programs for PADS boards, working off the ascii files. One program, PINK.EXE, is a better sch-pcb netlist check than the native one. Another one, BLUE.EXE, checks all the parts types and values for consistancy, and checks against our parts inventory database. That last one has saved untold hours of manual checking.

Nice. I often edit LTspice .asc files manually, e.g. to stick in some library parts when I'm shipping schematics to customers.

You can also do that with the text entry box. That makes sure that it all shows nicely in the schematic. I usually place these off to the left so clients only have to scroll there if they want to.

Yes, but it's quicker with an editor, at least for me. Having to go control-M all the time is a pain, and doesn't work in Linux (except when using Windows VMs).

Douglas Adams was good, but notoriously undisciplined, so he didn't write as much as he should have and his work does sprawl a bit
Terry Pratchett is probably closer to P.G.Wodehouse (if better educated) and still alive, though he's got problems.
I think his work is both funnier and deeper that that of Douglas Adams though this is a matter of taste.

I read a bit of Pratchett back in the palmy days, and he was a bit glib for my taste. Not enough Formidable Aunts or Ravenous Bugblatter Beasts. ;0

"A Damsel in Distress" is probably the best-written book in the English language.

You should check him out again. His witches and wizards are a respectable a lternative to formidable aunts, and I particularly liked his take on popula r - Murdoch press - "journalism" in "The Truth". "Cut-my-own-throat" Dibble r builds a new career as the editor of the Discworld equivalent of "The Sun ".

P.G.Wodehouse is depressing - all that skill, and not one idea to communicate.

Alt-nnn doesn't do anything, at least not in gnome-terminal.

I don't follow. What do you need alt-nnn for in an LTspice text entry box?

Sorry, morphed from another discussion. It's ctl-M that doesn't work under Linux.

I don't really know. It started life around 2000 as Red Hat 6, and has been through many transformations, 12 kernels, three machines, half a dozen hard drives, and other modifications, since. Most of it was compiled from source.
Desktop is an ancient Gnome, preferred to KDE purely on account of better rendition of background pictures. I like to look at the desert, mountains, Yosemite, and stuff, while working.
I prefer SysV init over BSD, too.
Ctrl-m has worked, both under whatever wine version I've built, or in an xterm from inception.
