That's probably the step-recovery diode, with lots of wirebonds to keep the L down. It's sitting on top of two parallel-plate capacitors.

Holy sharkskin suit, i was thinking along similar lines. With some fancy Rogers materials for the "substrate" it may be cost effective for some high performance applications.
