Electric Worm Digging

I read the electric fishing thread with interest, cause I live on a lake and am the only person who hasn't caught a fish from it, and it reminded me of another idea :

How to dig worms using electricity....

I did some experiments a few years back. To witt:

I took a lamp cord, put a 100 watt light bulb in series with it (ballast) and then put the cord to two probes about a foot long that I put into the ground, about 6 feet apart.....

So the electricity flowed thru the lamp, into a probe, thru the earth, back up the other probe and into the wall socket.... The light bulb was to limit the current. It didn't light, so almost the full 120 VAC was between the probes going thru the earth. The earth was fairly moist, behind my barn, and I plugged the apparatus in and waited for results...

After a minute or two I saw a LOT of worms crawling around the ground between the two probes. This is GREAT, I figured, and had a good supply of worms then, tho I didn't fish and had no real use for them..... but the machine worked, and I was elated.....

By the way, if there ain't no worms in the ground anyway, this ain't gonna work so good, so it's not like you can start your own worm farm.....

So , has anyone else tried this, or done something similar ?

Spreading this idea may reduce our earth worm population. I wonder if the thunder lightning happens because some species out there try to dig out the "human worms" too, :)

~~~~~~~~ Maybe I should ask Radio Shack. They claim they've got answers; but frankly, if Radio Shack were our provider, we'd _really_ be in trouble now, wouldn't we? ~~~~~~~~
They eat most people, eventually.
We're all worm poo in the end.
DARN! I was hoping that you found some electric worms - to zap fishes with.
Yes, as a matter of fact I recall the Coroner sending a guy off for trial for manslaughter in Australia (Ballarat: Victoria) some years ago for making a very similar device for his neighbour. The neighbour was killed by it. Don't recall an outcome.
Yeah, I wittnessed someone using this method to get worms for fishing. However, the worms he got this way were not very healthy and he could not keep them alive (that's to say moving) overnight as could be done with worms digged up the traditional way. Guess te worms were deadly injured by the current.
Yes, but so far it's been extremely difficult for us to crawl to the surface.
I've heard that if you run them through a wringer to get the dirt and worm poop out of them, you can fry them up like bacon!
I bet that would be fairly handy for Jews and Muslims alike., who like to avoid pork products...... Myself, being neither, would prefer bacon...
