Well I've got this spec from Ebay for the scope JL recommended but I can't find any parameter for "record length" (whatever that is) anywhere on it. Is it called by different names or have I just missed something? Here's the link:

Fry's sell a similar paint. It works well. I use it for shielding old scanners that are decent radios other than the plastic case. Not exactly cheap. I think about $20 a can in the pre-Bush_Jr. years when gas was cheap.

I have never found that coating on manufactured good. Rather they embed the metal in the plastic.

While a Faraday shield is ideal, close enough can do wonders. Electronics that needs ventilation and still needs very low EMI (say TEMPEST) uses a filter that looks like a collection of small metal tubes in parallel.

My problem with Jones is what would take me a minute looking at something in print takes 5 minutes of his annoying video. I assume he makes money from Youtube. He is about as ready for video as Fred Figglehorn.

Its faster brother the DS1102E has recently undergone a sharp price cut. Saelig (and probably others) have it for $399.

I got one recently, and I like it... it's a very nice adjunct to a faster analog scope or two.

I don't know--I watch DJ with some regularity, because he actually says what he means in an amusing way. He can get a bit tedious, but there's the fast forward button. I agree that he'd be more fun if he'd lose the "um"s.

You haven't looked very hard. I've seen it on the inside of computer cases and I've used it myself (though for ESD reasons, rather then EMI).

Because it has a higher ratio of space to blockage than a bunch of holes. The stuff is *expensive*, though.

Anything down below that, both models seem to work the same but I do see some extra noise on the hacked versions, even in the lower spectrum level.

If you're not picky, I guess It really much does not matter. I suppose it could also be the supplied probes, we didn't do a swap there to check.

I beg to differ. I recall in 2007 I had flown to Norfolk, VA and back to Boston Logan. Gasline at the time was scraping $3 per galon.

We needed some more 'scopes for the latest trade show and bought a few Rigols. (I've got one for home use.) I've also got a low end TEK (1000B) that I prefer for everyday use. It's got a faster update rate.

Besides other issues, the X-Y mode on the Rigol is laughable. It must put a new point on the screen every 100ms or so.... I wonder why they even bothered to add that 'feature'.

I wish I knew what he was talking about myself? I do use the X,Y inputs on my Rigol to track a signal slope and It seems to work perfectly for me?

If It makes any difference, I am not using the hacked 50 to 100mhz version of the scope, I am using the 100mhz model out of the box.

Maybe he got the midnight express firmware upgrade?
